Money Heist (also known as La casa de papel, “The House of Paper”) is an internationally successful Spanish heist crime drama TV series created by Álex Pina. Netflix released the series all over the world, with the first episode on December 20, 2017, and the second episode on April 6, 2018. Episode 3 was released on 19 July 2019. Episode 4 was released on April 3, 2020. The fifth season of the series premiered on September 3, 2021. The series follows two long-planned heists led by the Professor (Álvaro Morte), one at the Royal Spanish Mint and one at the Bank of Spain.
Premise, Cast and Characters:
A mysterious man nicknamed The Professor is planning the biggest heist in history. To carry out this plan, he recruits eight of the country’s biggest criminals who have nothing to lose: Tokyo, a veteran thief, Berlin, ringleader, Moscow, drilling expert, Rio, computer scientist, Nairobi, counterfeiter, Denver, Moscow’s son, Balkan war veterans of Helsinki and Oslo.
The aim is to infiltrate the Royal Mint of Spain and print 2.4 billion Euros in less than 11 days without shedding a single drop of blood. The group takes 67 people hostage, including the British Ambassador’s daughter. They always manage to stay one step ahead of the police while their brains are working outside.
When you think of Netflix’s La Casa de Papel (Money Heist), the first thing that comes to mind is probably the costumes the thieves wear in the show.
Throughout the show, Tokio (Úrsula Corberó), Denver (Jaime Lorente), Nairobi (Alba Flores) and more members of the Professor’s team don the Salvador Dalí mask and bright red overalls to hide their true identities. In season 3, Professor/Salvador “Salva” Martin (Álvaro Morte) was also momentarily disguised.
“Bella Ciao” Music:
The Italian folk song and partisan anthem Bella Ciao is more popular than ever. In 2017, it was sung by Tom Waits and throughout the Spanish television series Money Heist.
“Bella ciao” (“Goodbye beautiful”) is an Italian folk song that is considered the anthem of the anti-fascist resistance. It was used by Italian partisans in their struggle against the fascist Italian Social Republic and its Nazi German allies during the Italian Civil War between 1943 and 1945. “Bella ciao” is used around the world as an anti-fascist hymn to freedom and resistance. While the song’s origins are much older, it dates back to the hardships of the mondina women, paddy field workers who sang it as a protest against the harsh working conditions in the paddy fields of northern Italy in the late 19th century.
