My Bradford pear tree is a beautiful ornamental species, but I wish the landscaper who recommended it would have told me that it drops blossoms, ripe fruit, overripe fruit, dried up fruit, and leaves — pretty much a mess for 12 months of the year, mess both outdoors as well as inside the house when visitors would track it in. Blossoms and leaves are a given, but trying to remove overripe pears (thumbnail size) that have splatted and frozen onto the sidewalk leading to my front door in December is not fun. Twice I tried having the tree commercially sprayed, and twice they refunded my money for ineffectiveness. I have tried spraying with Florel and had limited success for three years, mostly due to sprayer inadequacies. Finally, this past spring when the tree was fully blossomed out I used a Chapin hose-end sprayer and climbed an 8′ ladder so the stream could reach the top of the tree. Spraying from a ladder helps to keep me above most of the spray drift, too. The big difference, though, was that I didn’t just spray the tree, I DOUSED it, I drowned it, I hit it with three times the amount of Florel mixture that I had used in past years. It was well worth the extra expense for months and months of freedom. Now when I’m having a bad day or simply need a little happy moment, I go outside and peer up inside that tree where I see nothing but leaves and branches. Thank you, Florel. Thank you for now, for autumn, for winter, for early spring. No more fruit, no more jam blobs, no more raisins. Now I’m just crossing my fingers that it works like this next season! Wonderful product!!
