Did come with batteries for the remote control. The actual snake is rechargeable with a cord using usb. Once you activate it, it goes forward and you direct it right or left with separate buttons. You can press the forward button again to stop it. It moves fast, the snake head stays upright while the body sways with forward movement, and there’s a red light shining from the mouth/tongue. It works great on the hardwood, and still good on our throw rug. My 7 and 3 year both use it and are very entertained. Made for a great gift.
