5. Incandescent Lamp

As the lamp heats up by passing electricity through it, the mercury begins to evaporate.
The arc becomes brighter but gives a blue color. When enough heat is dissipated, Halide salt starts to form steam and each element in Halide salt gives its own color.
So they all combine and mix with the blue color of the mercury vapor and the lamp starts to shift from blue to white.

7. Halogen Lamps
They can be called an advanced form of the incandescent lamp.
The first commercial Halogen lamp was developed in 1955 by General Electric employees Elmer Fridrich and Emmet Wiley.
It consists of a tungsten filament enclosed in a transparent casing filled with a small mixture of Halogen and inert gas.
It can operate at a much higher temperature than a traditional Incandescent lamp
and can produce light with higher luminous efficacy and color temperature.
It was widely used in car headlights a few years ago.
8. Compact Fluorescent Lamp (CFL)
CFL bulbs were introduced in the mid-1980s. It was an alternative to traditional halogen bulbs as the amount of power it took was much less.
The visible mark is tubular rings that are either U-shaped or twisted into circles on top of each other. The average life is 10,000 hours.
CFLs work differently than incandescent bulbs.
In the CFL, an electrical current is passed through the tube containing argon plus mercury vapors.
Producing invisible ultraviolet light, which activates the phosphor coating inside the tube, causing visible light to be emitted.
9. LED or Light Emitting Diodes Lamp
This type of lamps is today’s technology. You’ll see it everywhere, whether it’s chandeliers, torchlights, table lamps, and even car headlights.
Now the obvious question is, how do LEDs work? The science behind this light is the microchip that lights up when an electric current is passed through it.
The heat produced is absorbed by the refrigerant added to its surroundings.
LEDs differ from Incandescent, CFLs and other types in that they are more versatile, efficient and long lasting.
Incandescent bulbs radiate heat and light in all directions, while LED lights are unidirectional.

10. Fluorescent Tube
A common example is the light bar found in our homes ten years ago.
These are much more efficient than an incandescent lamp and are suitable for illuminating larger areas or buildings.
They use only 25-30% of the energy used by incandescent bulbs to produce a similar amount of light.
Moreover, their lifespan is ten times longer than incandescent lamps. The downside is the same as with CFLs; that is, they cannot be used with dimmers.
11. Neon lamps
Neon lights are also called pilot lights. It has a glass capsule with two electrodes inside with Neon and other gases at low pressure.

Neon lamps are used where a wide range of voltages, brightness and temperatures are required. In other words, they are dimmable.
They are not affected by mechanical shock or vibration.

12. High-Pressure Sodium Lamp (HPS)
The High Pressure Sodium lamp is the most widely used street lamp worldwide.
The principle of this lamp is to pass an electric current through a gas mixture.
It takes a while for them to fully open and produce an orange-yellow light.
13. Low-Pressure Sodium Lamp (LPS)
It works similarly to High Pressure sodium light except it is more efficient. Like HPS, it takes a while to give the full glow.
They are used in parking lots, streets and other outdoor places where color recognition is not important.
